Nissan Motor Company is a multinational automaker headquartered in Yokohoma, Japan. Its origins can be traced back to when the Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works (founded in 1911) produced its first car, the DAT. It produced both cars and trucks until 1925, when it merged with Jitsuyo Jidosha Co. Ltd, to form DAT Automobile Manufacturing Co. In 1931, the company released the Datsun (originally Datson), a smaller car than its predecessor, the DAT. In 1934, the automobile division of the company was split from its parent company to become a new subsidiary called Nissan Motor. Datsun's foray into the international market began by manufacturing automobiles for Austin Motors. In 1968, the Datsun 510 was the first Nissan vehicle to enter the American market. The 510 was partly responsible for cementing Datsun’s (and eventually Nissan’s) place as a reliable, dependable and popular car brand in the United States. Consequently, Nissan parts became premium aftermarket offerings.
