Kia does not test or approve any aftermarket filters and only recommends the use of Kia genuine parts that are designed to operate at the specifications set forth during engine lubrication design and testing. If the engine oil has been changed recently and a noise condition has developed, perform an inspection of the oil filter and or Customer oil change maintenance records to help you in determining if an aftermarket filter or the wrong oil viscosity was used. If the vehicle is equipped with an aftermarket oil filter, perform an oil change and filter using the correct oil grade /viscosity and a replacement genuine Kia oil filter at the customers expense. (bold emphasis added)
If all consumers only used OEM filters than all these sub companies that produced OEM specification parts would be out of business. I've used K&N filters mostly in my other cars. Like i said in another post I'll be using the KIA oil filters..
This video shows you how to change the oil and oil filter in your 2003 Kia Sorento. When you change your own oil, you know that you are putting quality oil in your Sorento and that the filter is being changed too. Most importantly, you get a chance to look around under your Sorento for potential trouble spots. This video shows you the location of your oil drain plug, oil filter, oil fill cap and dipstick in addition to the steps needed to change the oil and filter in your Sorento. For most Kias, you can wrap an old belt around the oil filter and unscrew it by hand. If you can't do this, see our page to find a Kia Sorento oil filter wrench. If your Sorento is too low to the ground to access your drain plug and oil filter, be sure to use jack stands and safe jacking procedures before getting under your Sorento.
Most Kias have the oil type printed on the oil cap - it will likely be 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40. If it isn't printed on the oil cap, check your owners manual for the exact type before adding new oil. We recommend wearing safety glasses whenever you are working under your Sorento. You never know what could be dripping down from the engine, battery acid, engine coolant, brake fluid, etc. All of these fluids are extremely harmful to your eyes and skin so it is important to protect yourself.
